Homes First, a Thurston County nonprofit dedicated to addressing homelessness through affordable housing, will hold its 10th Annual Real Community Heroes Awards & Celebration on Friday, May 1.
The event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Heritage Room, 604 Water St SW, Olympia.
This milestone event shines a light on four everyday community members whose behind-the-scenes dedication is helping make South Sound a healthier, more affordable place to live, Homes First said in a news release.
This year’s honorees are:
• Dana Evans, Built for Zero Coordinator, Family Support Center of South Sound
• Natalie Skovran, Deputy Director, Family Support Center of South Sound
• Nichole Woolsey, Senior Development Manager, American Cancer Society
• Dan Doyle, Owner, Doyle Construction (President's Choice Awardee)
What makes the Real Community Heroes selection process unique is its grassroots design — each year's honorees are chosen by the previous year's winners. This peer-driven approach ensures recognition flows from those with firsthand knowledge of who is quietly doing the work on the ground.
"This celebration honors real community heroes who dedicate their time and energy to making our community a healthier and more affordable place," said Homes First CEO Trudy Soucoup. "We want the public to know these names — and to understand that addressing the housing crisis takes everyday champions, not just institutions."
The evening will feature appetizers and refreshments, raffle baskets, and a silent auction.
New this year is a “Black & White with a Splash of Red” dress theme — attendees are encouraged to dress it up and have fun.
