Haagen homers twice and drives in 7 as Timberline makes quick work of Capital

Nevaeh Haagen and the Timberline softball team had a chip on their shoulders after a tough loss to Gig Harbor last weekend in a game that saw Haagen intentionally walk on all four of her plate appearances.

It was a bad day to be on the other end of the Blazers on Monday.

Haagen crushed her ninth and 10th home runs of the season and racked up seven runs batted in as Timberline blanked Capital 21-0 in five innings. It’s her first multi-homer game of the season, and she only made up half of Timberline’s bombs as both Brynnli Mayr and Kayleese Dorfner hit homers. Dorfner is up to three home runs on the season, while Mayr now has two.

Three of the four home runs came in the second inning, in which Timberline scored 12 runs following a seven-run first inning.

“It was a team effort today. Everyone came out swinging like they had something to prove after last week’s loss. We just needed the reset button to get back to where we should be,” Timberline head coach Lynsi Polanco said. “I think there were some chips on shoulders to not let another loss like that happen again. The team, and their bats, all showed up today.”

Porsha Miller and Sophia Wiggs combined to shut out Capital’s offense and hold the Cougars to just two hits while striking out seven. Kylie Tansey and Kailey Schindler each recorded a single for Capital.

Timberline (12-3, 12-1 Puget Sound League) will host rival North Thurston (8-6, 5-5 PSL) Wednesday afternoon, while Capital (2-11, 2-9 PSL) visits River Ridge on the same day.
