The West Thurston Regional Fire Authority and its partner agencies halted a brush fire in Grand Mound on Monday, Sept. 21, before it could damage any structures.
At about 3:30 p.m., West Thurston Fire Authority was dispatched to a report of a non-threatening brush fire near Sargent Road Southwest and 191st Avenue Southwest, according to a news release from the fire authority.
“While en route, this became a threatening brush fire,” the fire authority stated.
“Upon arrival, crews found the fire actively spreading east, prompting immediate action to protect nearby structures,” according to the release. “Firefighters from West Thurston Fire and multiple mutual aid agencies worked diligently to contain the fire. The fire was contained after burning approximately 3 acres.”
No structures were damaged. Activities were canceled at Theodore Hoss Field Sports Complex for the evening due to active fire operations, according to the release.
West Thurston Fire was assisted by Tumwater, South Thurston Fire, Olympia Fire, East Olympia Fire, McLane-Black Lake Fire, Riverside Fire Authority, Grays Harbor Fire District 1 and the state Department of Natural Resources.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
