Fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision in McKenna kills Puyallup man

The roadway near the intersection of state Route 702 and state Route 507 southeast was blocked for nearly two and a half hours during the evening of Thursday, Jan. 22, following a fatal vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision in McKenna.

According to a press release from the Washington State Patrol, Ty A. Curtis, 55, of Puyallup, was biking westbound in the eastbound lanes of SR 702, just east of SR 507, and was struck by a vehicle travelling eastbound on SR 702.

After the collision, the vehicle came to rest in the right shoulder of eastbound SR 702, and the bicycle came to a stop in the lane of eastbound 702. According to the Washington State Patrol, Curtis died at the scene.

The roadway near the collision remained blocked for two hours and 20 minutes following the collision — which occurred around 6:30 p.m.
Washington State Patrol reported there were two people inside of the red 2011 Hyundai Sonata that fatally struck Curtis.

According to the press release, Rohe W. Hawley, 45, of Anchorage, Alaska, was the driver of the vehicle. She was not injured in the accident or charged, according to the release.

Additionally, Mackenzie K. Hawley, 37, of Puyallup, was a passenger in the vehicle during the collision. She was also not injured
