Capital senior wide receiver Carter Pennington decimated the Bonney Lake defense for 273 yards and three touchdowns on 11 grabs as the Cougars knocked off the Panthers 27-18 at Ingersoll Stadium Friday night.
It was a high-scoring first quarter, as Capital led 21-12 after one. Each team only scored six points apiece over the final 36 minutes.
Senior Mason Bottin intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown during the Cougars’ first win of the season. Sophomore quarterback Cash VanZandt started the first two series before senior Nolan Potts entered, but Potts suffered an injury early in the third quarter and was replaced by VanZandt.
VanZandt threw for 228 yards and two scores on 10 of 21 passing, while Potts completed 10 of 12 attempts for 125 yards and one touchdown.
Capital (1-2) will begin Puget Sound League play at home against River Ridge (0-3) Friday, Sept. 25.
