The Capital volleyball team was swept at home by Gig Harbor Thursday night, falling to 0-3 early in the Puget Sound League season.

Capital kept it close with Gig Harbor in the first two sets. The Cougars came up just short 25-23 in both frames before the Tides ran away with the third set 25-8.

“Sets one and two were very close and could have gone either way. In the third set, we let them beat us,” Capital head coach Maia Nichols said. “They weren’t doing anything special. We were just making errors we usually don’t.”

Senior Tess Haws had an impressive day of attacking with six kills on only seven attempts, adding three aces. Junior Eliza Mikkelsen totaled five kills, 11 digs and three aces, while junior Clara Sandberg tallied four kills, seven digs and three aces.

Capital (1-3, 0-3 Puget Sound League) will look to get back on track Monday, Sept. 21 at Lincoln.
