A boat operator was arrested Sunday night for assault by watercraft after they ran over a smaller boat and its occupant, causing severe injuries.

The collision was reported near Boston Harbor, according to Thurston County Sheriff Derek Sanders, who was dispatched alongside deputies.

Deputies determined that a large boat ran over a smaller boat, and that an occupant of the smaller boat was ejected and run over by the larger boat.

“The larger boat continued on, resulting in numerous boaters from the marina driving out and rescuing the victim who tread water despite his substantial injuries,” Sanders said in a social media post Sunday night.

Witnesses reported the incident and helped rescue the victim from the water.

Sanders thanked them for their aid.

“The victim has significant injuries that may result in permanent disfigurement, and without your assistance may not have survived for any extended period of time in the water,” Sanders wrote. “We are hoping for a speedy recovery to the injured.”

The larger board returned a short time later and was arrested following an investigation.

“A TCSO Detective and Deputies conducted multiple interviews, obtained video footage, and ultimately placed the operator of the larger boat under arrest for assault by watercraft after witnesses reported the boat was operated recklessly,” Sanders wrote.
