A five-run sixth inning made all the difference for Tenino on Wednesday, when the Beavers topped Mossyrock 8-4 to pick up their first win of the season.

“Things went the right way for once,” Tenino coach Chris Johnson said. “The girls were really excited about it. We’ve been working hard on getting on something like this to go.”

Mossyrock scored first in the second and added a run in the fourth to go up 2-0, but Tenino responded with a three-spot in the bottom half to take a 3-2 lead going into the fifth.

Mossyrock answered right back with another pair in the fifth to go up 4-3, but a two-run single from Jaeleen Woodward put Tenino back in front in the sixth.

A two-run single from Tamara Snodderly added a couple of insurance runs, and another run came across on an RBI double from Macie Scharber.

“We had some real hard hits,” Johnson said. “We were able to string a couple of things together and make it work.”

Katen Burkhardt pitched the first two innings, allowing just one unearned run, and Chloe Grayless allowed three unearned runs while striking out six across the final five innings.

Hailey Allen picked up two hits and drove in two runs for the Vikings, while Brooke Schwartz and KK Brown also drove in a run apiece in the loss.

Zoella Zavodsky allowed just three hits and struck out nine, but she also walked nine batters.

Mossyrock (1-2) will return home to host Toutle Lake on Thursday, the same day that Tenino (1-3, 0-2 1A Evergreen) will head to Elma for a league matchup.
