Six unanswered runs allowed the Tenino High School baseball team to post a 10-4 triumph over Rainier on Wednesday night in a battle of South Thurston County rivals.
It marked the end of the season for the Beavers (4-17), who were one win away from playing in the Class 1A District 4 tournament. They broke a 4-4 tie in the third on a Kolton Sheldon RBI triple, then they extended the lead with a four-run fourth.
Two errors and RBI knocks from Sawyer Noonan and Easton Miller pushed Tenino in a comfortable cushion. Miller had three hits at the plate and tossed a complete game on the mound, striking out four.
Noonan also had three hits and drove in four while both of Sheldon’s hits were triples.
Rainier (9-11) scored all four of its runs in the first and second innings. Yazama Gurnsey gave the Mountaineers the lead in the second with a two-run triple. He and Peyton Sheaffer had five of their eight hits.
Up next for Rainier is its first round game against Raymond/South Bend in the Class 2B District 4 tournament on Saturday in Napavine.
