Tenino was knocked out of the 1A District 4 Tournament on Wednesday, when it fell to King’s Way Christian 59-28 in an elimination game in Vancouver.

The Beavers hung with the Knights for a quarter, as it was tied at 11 after one, but King’s Way Christian outscored Tenino 48-17 over the game’s final 24 minutes.

“Tough one tonight,” Tenino coach Kirsi Gofinch said. “They run a great 2-3 zone with a ton of pressure, and we had a tough night finishing.”

Charley Jones had the most success against the zone defense, scoring 16 points, while Kyla Watson scored five, Kylie Gonia scored four, and Georgia Gore scored three.

The Beavers finish their season 7-17 and will graduate just one senior, Chloe Grayless. Every other player on the team is either a freshman or eighth-grader.

“A season rarely ends the way you want it to, but this obviously wasn’t how we wanted to go out,” Gofinch said. “I think there’s always a lesson to be learned, though, and a good dose of motivation for next year never hurts. This has been such a special team to coach, and we’re going to miss Grayless for sure next year. But it’s exciting to think about having the rest of them back next season and getting back to work in June.”
