Bears romp Blazers behind two explosive innings

A five-run first inning and a seven-run sixth inning helped the Olympia baseball team cruise past Timberline 16-4 in six innings at the Regional Athletic Complex Monday night.

The Bears only needed 10 hits, including two for extra bases, to rack up 16 runs — the most Olympia has scored in a game since March 28, 2024, against Bellarmine when it put up 18.

In the first inning, Olympia fired off four runs with two outs, with Landyn Keister driving in two on a double and Connor Hardy scoring two more with a single to take a 5-0 lead after one. Timberline, in its season opener, scored its first run of the spring in the first inning when Caleb Bacon popped a fly ball that dropped between the center fielder and the second baseman in shallow right center.

The Bears tacked on three runs in the third and one in the fourth, while the Blazers tallied two in the fourth. Hardy picked up two more RBIs on a two-run double in the third to give him four RBIs on the night.

Olympia erupted for seven runs in the sixth thanks to six walks and four hits.

“I was really happy with our offensive approach today. We had consistent, quality at bats up and down the lineup,” Olympia head coach Derek Sheldon said. “We had aggressive baserunning and several big two-out RBI hits early in the game. We were below our standing on the mound, but we will get that cleaned up. The boys played hard and selfless, which was great to see.”

Both teams combined for 21 walks, 22 stolen bases and 16 hits.

Olympia (2-0) will travel to Camas to face Prairie on Friday, while Timberline (0-1) will turn around quickly and host Central Kitsap Tuesday.
