Thurston County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested an armed suspect during a domestic violence call in the Black Lake area on Sunday, April 12.

The suspect was reportedly “extremely impaired” and was taken to a hospital for medical clearance before being booked into the Thurston County Jail for first-degree assault, according to Sheriff Derek Sanders.

Sanders and TCSO deputies had reportedly responded to an open 911 line where they could hear a dispute between two partners. One was pleading for the other to stop loading a gun with additional yelling and a dog barking in the background, Sanders said in a social media post.

The caller was reportedly able to escape the residence after the suspect pointed a firearm at them.

A lone deputy arrived on scene and located the armed suspect in the driveway.

“The deputy utilized time, distance, and cover to safely hold the suspect at gunpoint until reinforcements arrived,” Sanders wrote in his social media post on Sunday.

As of Sunday evening, deputies were in the process of obtaining a search warrant to seize all the suspect’s firearms and conducting a threat assessment with the victim.

“Great job by all of the responding units and our dispatcher to safely resolve this incident,” Sanders wrote.

The suspect had not been identified by law enforcement as of Monday afternoon.
