The Thurston County Emergency Management Council invites residents to mark their calendars for a day of learning, connection, and community preparedness, a news release from the council announced. The Annual Thurston County Preparedness Expo will be on Saturday, Sep. 26, at the Lacey Community Center.
This free, family-friendly event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and features interactive activities, hands-on demonstrations, and valuable resources to help individuals and families prepare for emergencies.
"Emergencies can happen at any time, but being prepared doesn't have to be overwhelming," Kyle Bustad, Emergency Management Manager, said in the release. "The Preparedness Expo gives people practical tools, skills, and resources they can use to prepare before disaster strikes. Even small steps taken today can make a big difference tomorrow."
Visitors can explore interactive exhibits, meet local emergency responders and community partners, and learn essential preparedness skills, such as creating a family emergency plan and building an emergency supply kit. Attendees will also enjoy hands-on CPR/AED training, the Child Safety Traffic Garden, the Fire Safety House, emergency preparedness activities for all ages, and free emergency kits while supplies last.
